Carlos Avila, aka DJ Primo, took his life yesterday after struggling with depression. He was 31.
He is known as the “King of Christian Chopped and Screwed”. I first heard his work on the 116 Clique Compilation Album. I didn’t think that chopped and screwed would be successful in christian hip-hop, but he proved that he was a permanent fixture in the industry.
It is sad to hear someone working for the Kingdom leave so tragically. We often seem to forget that just because someone is a Christian doesn’t mean they don’t have any issues or situations that they are struggling with. We need to continue to pray for and encourage all of our brothers and sisters in Christ.
He leaves behind his wife and two young children.
Reach Records has decided to donate all proceeds of The Compilation Album to the Avila family so head over to iTunes and purchase it if you can. But most importantly, keep his family in your prayers.
